Happy Memorial Day 2014!

Ditto (an umbrella cockatoo) and the Association for Parrot C.A.R.E‘s Serenity Park Parrot Sanctuary want to invite ALL Veterans to a party in your Honor. On May 26th (Memorial Day) at Serenity Park located on the Grounds of the West LA VA Hospital we will be having a party in your honor from 11am-3pm.

We will have food, drinks, music, and gifts from
OPERATION GRATITUDE! and sacks of food from the Westside Food Bank for every Veteran in attendance – guests of veterans are welcome but the cost is $10.00 per person.

We can still use more volunteers for serving and making food and handing out the gift packages. We are expecting to feed 500-700 veterans and it will be our honor to do so! Please email us if you can help: bird@parrotcare.org Tell a veteran you love and hope to see you there!

From the intersection of Wilshire and Sepulveda Blvd. go North to the first stop light at Constitution.

Go left on Constitution and you will be on the grounds of the VA Medical Center. Take the second possible right onto Davis Avenue (there will be a sign for the "Veteran's Garden"). Take Davis until it ends in the parking lot of the Vet's garden. Park your car. Follow the path through the garden to the parrot sanctuary.

Handicap parking is available if you follow Davis to the left of the Vets Garden behind the Jackie Robinson Stadium andpark at the back entrance of the Vet's Garden.

Last Year’s Memorial Day Party led by Master Chef Van Zant (center) and Matthew Simmons (left) – both combat vets!

Huey (pictured below) “howls” in the Spring at LARC. Huey, a rescue from Texas, is finally coming into his own. Once a timid young male Huey now has a pack of his own. Huey enjoys quality time with his two companions, walks with Dr. Lindner, and his huge bathing dish in his enclosure. Huey , like all the animals at LARC, is looking for a sponsor this spring so click on the link below to sponsor a resident.

Moon (pictured below) calls to Matthew W. at NEWARC and welcomes in Spring in New Hampshire. NEWARC wants to congratulate our supporters for helping us through a hard winter. Spring has sprung and with it the need for Flea and Tick Medication. Click the link below to send a dose of Frontline to a wolf of wolfdog at NEWARC.

As we are learning at LARC and Serenity Park Parrot Sanctuary, often times our returning heroes have trouble adjusting to life at home so we now have introduced this unique solution at NEWARC. Warriors and Wolves, our “back to nature ecotherapy approach,” with the wolves/wolfdogs offering our returning heroes a chance to heal outside the hospital setting while supported by other Veterans who have experienced the same trauma….much like while on active duty the support of another soldier makes the impossible seem possible. Veterans can apply for employment by emailing our staff at wolf@newarc.org or wolf@lockwoodarc.org note “Warriors and Wolves” in the subject line

LARC’s “Warriors and Wolves” program welcomes Forest L. to meet Wiley (pictured below).  Forest, an OEF/OIF Veteran, was “gung ho” to help around the facility and spend some time with Wiley.
